I have always been fascinated by words. They have creative power. Words are powerful and once spoken or written, have a life of their own. Don’t joke with words, don’t trivialize words. They have been known to cause wars, broker peace, pierce hearts and heal wounds. A right word spoken at the right time could be a life-saver. No matter what is going on in the world today: Covid-19 pandemic, economic downturn, spike in unemployment rate, job losses, crime and all manner of evil, the right word at the right moment might be the tonic needed to turn things around. So I encourage you to be kind to yourself and others. Say a nice word, return a smile, spread love.
As far back as my early teenage years, I recall keeping a diary of quotes, words and phrases I found inspiring and helpful. On my Facebook page, I regularly drop quotes on different subjects which some of my followers have found helpful. Here today, I would like to share about 15 of some of the best success quotes which I hope you will find inspiring.
1.”Start by doing what is necessary, then what is possible and suddenly you are doing the impossible” – St. Francis of Assisi
I have always been and will continue to be a student of “not-neglecting-little beginnings”. Sometimes you have to start small, start from scratch, learn the basics, cut your teeth on that job until you master it, gain expertise and credibility, then you can start chasing the next big thin. Someone once said “Strong enough to make holes in the rock are tiny drops of water that persist to fall. Persistence is the attitude that breaks down mountains one rock at a time!” Some people make the mistake of wanting what they’re not qualified to have. To have more, you have to become more.
2. “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right” – Henry Ford
If you don’t think big, you don’t get big. It takes the same amount of energy to think either big or small, so why not raise the bar, think big. For one moment, forget about limits, think endless possibilities. The Bible says in Proverbs 23:7 “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he” Is it possible that you are shortchanging yourself and limiting yourself by your own thoughts? Every greatness starts with a thought, every action begins with a thought. What are those limiting thoughts and beliefs that are holding you down? Fear, lack, failure, disappointments? Whatever it is, the first step towards changing that situation begins with a thought. Decide today that you want to turn a new direction. Make up your mind that you will not remain in that situation forever and that your best life is still out there in front of you. Finally, on this point, I will quote a popular global neurosurgeon “To THINK BIG and to use our talents doesn’t mean we won’t have difficulties along the way. We will–we all do. If we choose to see the obstacles in our path as barriers, we stop trying. “We can’t win,” we moan. “They won’t let us win.” – Ben Carson
3. “An idea not coupled with action will never get any bigger than the brain cell it occupied” – Arnold H. Glasow
Successful people make a habit of doing the things unsuccessful people do not like to do. A journey of a thousand miles, it’s been said, begins with a step. It’s not enough to think big or positive, you must accompany your thoughts with actions. That is the way you win. There is an Irish proverb which says something like “you’ll never plough a field by turning it over in your mind” An imperfect action is better than no action at all. Therefore, no matter how great your intentions are, you need to put those motives into action. Motivation = Motive in Action. So you are serious about succeeding, massive, determined actions are vital to achieving your goal. Get that education, acquire that new skill, read that book, begin that relationship, start that business. Whatever it is, just do it! It has been said that successful people are action-oriented, so if you want to be successful in your endeavour, take action! The slightest action is far better than tons of intentions. Sometimes, the gap between your dreams and reality could just be an action. So don’t wait until you are ready to take action, instead take action to be ready for that opportunity. I love Zig Ziglar’s wise words: “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great“

4. “Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment” – Jim Rohn
You will agree that discipline is a tough subject. It is something we all deal with everyday. It requires conscious effort, determination and focus on your goal. Things like daily exercise, reading, personal development, eating habits amongst others are some of the things we all struggle with. One thing that has helped me maintain discipline is having a clear vision of my goal and placing it where I can see it daily. Jim Rohn was once quoted to have said “Everyone must choose one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret”
5. “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts” – Winston Churchill
So you’ve tried several times but you have not succeeded. That business or relationship didn’t work out as planned. Others seem to be ahead of you and it looks like you are not making progress. Quit comparing yourself to others. No two persons are called to run the same race in life. “I used to envy others while I was younger, until I realized that it is how fast a man is going, but the direction he is travelling that matters” – Austin Nnoli. Don’t give up on yourself. If what you are doing isn’t working, find out why it is not working. If you have to, pivot, change strategy, go and learn from those who know better, take that course, go online, do some research. Find out all that you need to know. Never, ever give up. I once applied for a job in a company about 23 times before I finally got it. All the while, I had to fight off despair and discouragement, while continuing to sharpen my interviewing skills and work on myself. Eventually I got in and even at a higher level than I imagined. All along, I kept connecting and building relationships with people who were already working there and learning some that proved helpful eventually.
